Newegg’s Post Price-Match Guarantee! Free $10 and gift!
Well here is the story of how I retrieved $10 back from one my purchases, as well as a free gift from Newegg! The free gift was simple, I was on live chat support and asked them to send me an email transcript of the chat. I was sent a personal email of what I requested, as well as an optional link to provide them feedback. The link also stated ‘Please reply if you’ve left feedback so we can thank you appropriately‘. I also received the $10 back, because I ordered an item, which was later featured in a daily promotion a few days later. I actually contacted them to request credit, or have my product returned, so I can purchase the new item with the discounted price. Newegg, unlike Circuit City, does not offer a price guarantee. Circuit city offers a 30day price lock guarantee. This is a quote from NewEgg’s website FAQ:
The price of an item I purchased has dropped prior to shipment. Is it possible to get a refund of the difference?
NewEgg.com does not offer any price guarantee, because industry prices change too often and too fast. If your order has not shipped, you can cancel the order online and re-order to take advantage of the new prices. All prices are as posted at the time of purchase.
That’s too bad. But if you contact them about it; they may honor the price guarantee! That’s what they did to me, they also gave me a free gift! Read on for my experience and pictures of the free gift!
So I found a Slick Deal on an HP OfficeJet 6310 for $79.99, so I ordered it. I got the product for $85.79 shipped after taxes!
Only 8 days later, after receiving my product, I found out that NewEgg had the same product, on one of it’s Printer Promotions, also found from SlickDeals, for only $69.99 w/ free shipping. This is a whole $10 off!
I then being the cheapass that I am, contact NewEgg through Live Support, to ask to either credit me, or let me return my product. They tell me that I could return my product if I pay to ship it back, so I rejected the offer. They offered to credit me back $10, which is a lot better than paying even more to ship back to them. I take the offer of getting $10 back, which I eventually did the next business day. Here is my chat log:
Chat Session:
info: Please wait while we connect you to a Newegg representative.
info: Thank you for contacting Newegg. My name is Linda. How may I assist you today?
Curt: Hi Linda. Just last week I purchased an HP Officejet 6310 on a sale at NewEgg. I have that product with me right now, unopened, still in original packaging.
Curt: I just found out that there is soon going to be another printer promotion tomorrow for the same printer, but cheaper.
Curt: So I was wondering if I can receive credit for that, or if I can just get an RMA for the current printer, and buy the promotional item tomorrow.
Linda: Can you please give me one moment while I look into this for you?
Curt: Sure, thanks.
Linda: You are welcome.
Linda: In your case, because you have not opened the item, I am able to issue an RMA for a refund and make an exception to waive the restocking fee for you. However, you will need to pay the return shipping fee to ship back the returned item to us. Otherwise, If you keep the item as is, I will be glad to offer $10.00 for you as a customer courtesy.
Curt: Yes, I wish to keep the item, and would appreciate the $10. How would I go about receiving it? Thanks
Linda: You are welcome. I will issue $10.00 back onto your source of payment. Please allow 3-5 business days for the fund to appear in your account.
Curt: Alright, should I get an email confirmation of this credit?
Linda: I will send an email about this issue to you if you wish.
Curt: Alright please do. You already have the sales order information am I correct?
Linda: Yes, I have it. It is SO # XXXXXX, right?
Curt: Yes, that is correct.
Linda: I will send the email to you in about 5 minutes.
Curt: Alright, thank you Linda! Looking forward to the email.
Curt: Have a good evening.
Linda: You are welcome.
Linda: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
Curt: That’s it. Thanks
info: Your chat transcript will be sent to curt@XXXXXXX.com at the end of your chat.
Linda: I am glad that I could help. Have a nice evening!
Curt: Got the email, will leave feedback now. Bye
Here is the personal email confirmation the nice rep has typed for me:
